THANK YOU, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan, for providing headsets to our YMCA virtual learners!
As many students started the school year online this fall, the YMCA of San Diego County has worked hard to offer solutions that meet families’ critical needs for child care, all while supporting children to reach their fullest potential. Childcare is not only essential for parents to continue working, but also provides important opportunities for children’s social and emotional development. Yet, many families – especially low-income, historically under-resourced families – may not be able to afford the unexpected costs associated with this new world.
The Y identified a significant gap in virtual learning for low-income youth throughout San Diego County. Their lack of ability to focus while e-learning in communal environments is a significant barrier to education. Lucky for these students, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan reached out to the Y, looking for a way to help.
During the week of October 5, 2020, Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan provided nearly 300 virtual learning headsets to school-age children at three YMCA of San Diego County locations, including the South Bay Family YMCA, the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA (Encinitas), and the Mottino Family YMCA (Oceanside).
We’re grateful to partners like Blue Shield of California Promise Health Plan for their interest in our YMCA kids, and thank them for the donation!
