This Friday, June
20th 2014, tens of thousands of adults and kids at aquatics facilities around
the globe will partake in an attempt to break the record for the WORLD'S
LARGEST SWIM LESSON to build water awareness about the vital importance of
teaching kids to swim! This free event is open to the community we encourage
everyone to jump in our pools and be a part of this year's world record. We are
hosting free swimming lessons to children and their parents ages 3 and up that
morning. Registration starts at 7 am, the attempt starts at 8 am. 17 YMCA
facilities will host the event in San Diego County. Find your closest pool at
ymca.org.
All participants must be in attendance by 7:30am for
instruction and registration.
According
to Guinness World Records, the current record for the largest swimming lesson
in multiple venues was 19,322 participants, achieved by Team WLSL (USA) at 235
locations throughout the world on 14 June 2011.
Drowning is the
second leading cause of accidental death of children ages 1-14. Research shows
that if a child doesn't learn to swim before the 3rd grade, they likely never
will. The World's
Largest Swimming Lesson¢Û_å¢ (WLSL) is designed to provide local
waterparks, community pools and other aquatic facilities with an event that
