A Campaign to Fund our Youth Housing Complex in Escondido
YMCA Youth & Family Services housing programs give youth facing housing instability immediate access to a home and intensive support services that help them thrive and move toward self-sufficiency.
When youth know they can sleep safely at night, they are better able to set and achieve goals for long-term stability. This combined approach changes their trajectory during a critical tipping point, prevents chronic homelessness, and sets them on a path to becoming a successful healthy adult.
Over the last 20 years, YMCA Youth & Family Services programs have supported youth in successfully exiting homelessness and pursuing their goals.
The Y’s participants increase their economic stability, educational achievements, and emotional well-being, putting them back on a trajectory toward successful independence. This past year, we have served over 225 youth in housing programs. Our programs make a difference in the lives of the youth we serve, but their existence is in jeopardy. Based on current trends in the housing market and increasing rental costs, the Y will be forced to reduce access to its housing programs within the next 5 to 7 years. An investment must be made immediately to mitigate this forecasted risk.
In 2019, we secured a 25-unit apartment building in Escondido:
- Built in 1979
- 2 bedrooms
- 2 bathrooms
- Ample parking
- Outdoor community space
- Park-like setting
This complex will allow 44 youth and any dependent children to experience safe and stable housing with supportive services to assist them in their quest for well-being and self-sufficiency.
Ownership of this building is critical to the Y’s innovative service model and allows for increased impact on the lives of the next generation.
The Next Phase Involves You!
We need partners to help us make this building a safe haven for young people — so they can feel secure, stable, and ready to navigate their future plans.
We have secured funding for approximately $4.4M dollars and are in need of financial contributions equal to $2.4M. With that additional funding, we will be able to improve the building, renovate it for safety, and reduce the principal balance of the purchase price to funnel necessary resources toward critical support services.

TOTAL ACQUISITION COST
Ending youth homelessness is a key strategy in solving chronic adult homelessness, and an investment in targeted youth services will pay dividends when those youth realize their potential and grow into contributing members of our community.
Donors who give gifts of $25,000 or more have the opportunity to name a room or an area of the apartment on their behalf or in honor/memory of another.
Please contact Justin Lipford if you’re interested in taking advantage of this opportunity.
Together, we can create a dignified space for young people to call home. Here is an inside look into one of our housing programs. Imagine what we can achieve together!
