On March 24, we hosted a Solidarity with Ukraine webinar. Sharing this space together gave us the opportunity to grieve, learn and show compassion to ourselves and one another while we “filled our cups”.
The YMCA of San Diego County stands alongside the YMCA global family in solidarity with Ukraine and other regions experiencing violence during this tragic moment in history. It has been one month since Russian forces began their invasion of Ukraine. The toll on Ukrainian civilians grows by the hour as millions have been forced out of their homes, villages are in ruins and many are without power, heat and water as they shelter in place. This moment in history is heavy with emotion.
The courage and strength Ukrainians have displayed as they boldly defend the front lines of democratic freedom is a testament to the resilience of their country, culture and ancestors. As our YMCA Ukraine Volunteers shared in this video, they are eager to get back to their country.
YMCA Ukraine, YMCA Europe and the YMCA global family are coming together to respond to this humanitarian crisis in critical ways.
- YMCA Ukraine continues to operate in seven Ukrainian cities providing direct assistance like housing, food, clothing, medicines, and counseling to local communities and internally displaced people.
- YMCA branches in neighboring European countries are providing similar support to those who have fled, helping them coordinate transportation, housing, and financial support.
We are grateful to be a part of a global movement and for the opportunity to give back in a direct and meaningful way. If you feel compelled to do so, please consider joining the YMCA of San Diego County in contributing to YMCA Ukraine and their ongoing humanitarian efforts to support their country during this difficult time. All donations will be matched by Lyft in a national partnership.
Please take good care of yourselves and your loved ones. May peace prevail.
