Model United Nations

The California YMCA Youth and Government Model United Nations program is a simulation of the “real-life” United Nations Assembly. Participants in the Model United Nations (MUN) will take part in some of the activities that the real U.N. participates in. Ambassadors will research, debate and establish policies, treaties and resolutions focusing on international issues, including disputes between countries, peace keeping responsibilities, border crisis, stabilizing financial markets and dealing with hunger, disease and poverty.

Camp Pali Mountain
March 16-17, 2019
Held at Camp Pali Mountain, the first conference of the year focuses on giving new Ambassadors an overview of the Model United Nations program. Returning Ambassadors will focus on leadership development. During this conference participants will receive specific training on their role in the Model United Nations.
MUN Summit Conference
April 25-28, 2019
The Model United Nations Summit is held in Los Angeles, California. This four-day conference is the heart of the MUN program where ambassadors are given a chance to put all their research and practice to work as they perform their roles and explore how the United Nations is run. There is a Parent Day the last day of this conference, where Parents are encouraged to attend and observe their child(ren).
Middle School Leadership Conference
Grades 6-8

Middle School Leadership Conference is a weekend leadership training event, where you will meet other teens from all over San Diego County. Start your road to success by learning tips and skills to succeed in school and life! Held at YMCA’s Camp Surf in Imperial Beach, this exciting program will also allow you free time between sessions. Explore options such as archery, rock climbing, gaga and other great camp activities.

Youth and Government

Our Youth & Government program works with teens to develop leadership skills, public speaking, critical thinking, and learn about the California legislator and court system. This will be done over two training conferences and a final conference in Sacramento where the Model Legislator and Court program will take place.
Training and Elections 1 (Fresno 1)
November 9-11, 2019
This conference officially kicks off the Youth & Government (Y&G) year. During this conference delegates will learn the basics of their position they will have in Sacramento. During this time they will also be voting on their leadership for the state wide positions or they can run themselves to help lead over 3,000 students.

Training and Elections 2 (Fresno 2)
January 19-21, 2019
This conference is where delegates will fine tune their state wide roles in Y&G and begin working in groups on their specific projects for Sacramento.
Sacramento
February 13-18, 2019
This is the culminating conference where delegates get to put what they have learned throughout the year into action. The delegates quite literally will be taking over the capital for a week performing their specific roles.
