The YMCA offers a variety of ball and bat sports programs for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels. Our YMCA sports options include softball for adults, baseball for youth and t-ball for peewees. Softball is offered for with a range of leagues for players of different skill levels. For youth, baseball is an important sport that teaches teamwork, sportsmanship, and other valuable life skills. T-ball is a great way for young children to get started in the sport of baseball with modifications for easier understanding and game play. YMCA sports programs provide a great opportunity for people of all ages to stay active, make new friends, and learn important life lessons while having fun!

SOFTBALL

Adults | Ages 18+

Softball at the YMCA is a popular activity that provides a fun and social way for individuals, aged 18 and up, to stay active and competitive in an environment that encourages community and healthy living. Leagues typically run during the spring and summer months and are open to all skill levels, from beginners to experienced players. Participants can sign up individually or as part of a team, and games are played on weekday evenings or weekends. The YMCA provides all necessary equipment and fields for the games, making it an easy and accessible option for those looking to participate in a recreational sports league. Whether it's for the love of the game or the camaraderie of being part of a team, adult softball at the YMCA is a great way to stay active, meet new people, and have fun.

BASEBALL

Youth | Ages 5-17

Baseball at the Y is an excellent option for families looking to introduce their children to the sport of baseball in a positive and supportive environment. YMCA baseball leagues and clinics emphasize teamwork and fair play, all of which are essential for success both on and off the field. With a focus on player development and improvement, YMCA baseball offers an engaging way for kids to learn the fundamentals of the sport while developing important life skills. In addition to its emphasis on sportsmanship and skill development, YMCA baseball also encourages physical fitness and helping kids develop a lifelong love of exercise through sports. By participating in baseball activities, young athletes can learn important life lessons and build a strong foundation for a healthy and active lifestyle.

LEAGUES

Youth leagues at the YMCA are a great way for young athletes to learn the fundamentals of baseball and the skills necessary for success in the sport. Parents are encouraged to get involved and help their child learn the skills they need to succeed on the field.

Sign up for a baseball league at the YMCA near you! All baseball players must wear athletic shoes and loose clothing. Players are encouraged to bring full gear including cleats, pants, protective equipment, bat, gloves and helmet. Please make sure your child’s name is on all their belongings. 

CLINICS

Baseball clinics at the YMCA are a great way for children to learn the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and supportive environment. YMCA instructors will focus on teaching young athletes the proper technique for throwing, catching, hitting, base running, basic technique, rules and regulations. Baseball clinics designed for children ages 5-17 and typically run for 4-8 weeks.

PADRES ROOKIE LEAGUE

BASEBALL & T-BALL | AGES 4-12

JUNE 24 - AUGUST 19

The Padres Rookie League program from Major League Baseball and the San Diego Padres aims to create opportunities for children ages 4 through 12. This FREE program is designed to increase participation and interest in baseball and softball, encourage academic achievement and teach the value of teamwork.

PROGRAM DETAILS:

  • Opening day celebration at Jackie Robinson Family YMCA on June 24 at 10:00am (Get directions).
  • Each participant will receive a hat, jersey, and glove.
  • What to bring: Closed toe athletic shoes, loose clothing. Players may bring their own bat, gloves and helmet. Please make sure your child’s name is on all their belongings.
  • Attendance Requirement: Players & parents MUST commit to all practices and games. Attendance will be kept at all practices and games; participants are expected to attend all practices and games. Any child that is absent from two practices or games will forfeit their spot and be removed from the program. Please communicate any absences with the team coach and the Sports staff/Director.
  • Games and practices: Games will take place on Saturdays with a practice beforehand or throughout the week.

    • Minors baseball for ages 5-7 | Practices will be on Thursdays at 5:30pm. 
    • Minors baseball for ages 8-10 | Practices will be on Thursdays at 6:30pm.
    • Minors baseball for ages 11-12 | Practices will be on Wednesdays at 6:30pm.
  • Copley-Price Family YMCA
    • T-ball for ages 5-7 | Practices will be on Tuesdays at 4:30pm.
  • Mission Valley YMCA
    • T-ball for ages 5-7 | Practices take place at 8:30am followed by a game on Saturdays at 9:00am.
      • Play will take place as a 25-minute practice, starting at 8:30am, followed by a 45-minute game, starting at 9:00am.
  • Toby Wells YMCA
    • T-ball for ages 5-7 | Practices and games will be on Saturdays.
  • Border View Family YMCA 
    • T - ball for ages 4-8 | Practices will be held Wednesdays from 5:30pm-6:30pm.
  • Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA
    • T-ball for ages 4-5 | Practices and games will take place on Saturdays at 10:00am.
    • Minors baseball for ages 6-7 | Practices and games will take place on Saturdays at 11:00am.
  • Ryan Family YMCA
    • T-ball for ages 5-7 | Practices will take place throughout the week with games on Saturdays.

PEEWEE | AGES 3-5

T-ball at the YMCA is a great way for young children to learn the basics of baseball and develop their skills in a fun and safe environment. T-ball is a modified version of baseball designed for young children, where the ball is placed on a tee rather than being pitched. The program is designed to teach children the basics of hitting, fielding, and running bases, while also promoting physical activity and healthy competition. Y volunteer coaches provide guidance and encouragement while emphasizing the importance of teamwork, sportsmanship, and having fun.

LESSONS

T-ball lessons at the YMCA are a great way for children to learn the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and supportive environment. YMCA instructors will focus on teaching our youngest athletes the proper technique for throwing, catching, hitting and base running, basic techniques, rules and regulations. Leagues are for those aged 3-5 years old and will focus on teaching the basics of hitting, throwing, catching, and running the bases, as well as important skills like teamwork and sportsmanship. Trained Y volunteer coaches and parents will guide the practices and games. Our youngest athletes will develop their technical skills and build confidence while also making new friends and enjoying the outdoors.
