WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR?

GOING GLOBAL

Building cultural competence and connection around the world. Join us before the fun of WCC begins for 1 additional day and become a Going Global trainer! It includes Sunday night accommodation and 2 extra meals.

As a trainer you will be the first to launch this new curriculum at YMCA youth programs including camp.

Developed by YMCA’s worldwide and supported by Y of the USA, Going Global TOT will deepen your impact, strengthen your global awareness and provide you with tools, fun activities, and thought-provoking ideas to bring to the programs you lead.

By implementing Going Global tools, we believe you will:

  • Strengthen intercultural skills
  • Create safe spaces for bridge-building
  • Connect communities
  • Equip community change-makers
  • Build global citizens

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Alex Kretzinger

Director of Des Moines Y Camp
Alex Kretzinger is the Executive Director of the Des Moines Y Camp, located in Boone, Iowa, where he's served full time for fourteen years, seven of which were spent in his current role. As a native Iowan, Alex grew up spending summers on his grandparents' farm instead of attending summer camp and didn't get his first introduction to camping until he was 21. Now, Alex, his wife Beth, who he met when they were both counselors his first summer, and their children Ben (6) and Leah (4), live at camp and enjoy daily adventures in the woods. Alex is passionate about the role camp can plan in the needs of children and in addressing societal challenges. As a resource, camp combines the key developmental ingredients necessary to build strong and resilient people and communities, ensuring a better world. Using the principles of Targeted Universalism, Alex believes that meeting the needs of one specific group can help us better address the needs of all because we can only succeed if all of us succeed.

Michele Rowcliffe

CEO of American Camp Association — New England
After more than 20 years working within the YMCA, Michele Rowcliffe thought she knew camp. Then she stepped into her role as CEO of the American Camp Association, New England and suddenly had a front-row seat to an incredibly diverse camping landscape. Today, Michele visits and works with camps of every kind, nonprofit and for-profit, large and small, rustic and highly resourced, affordable and expensive, century-old institutions and emerging programs. What she has discovered has both challenged some of her assumptions and strengthened her belief in the extraordinary value of YMCA camping.
