TRADITIONAL CAMPS

Traditional camps are ultra-spirited, fun-filled camps with weekly themes that guide activities for the week. New experiences, skill building, a sense of community and lasting friendships are all part of traditional day camp experience. Join our Y day camp for a week of fun with all the onsite activities our camp has to offer! Campers will build self-confidence, meet new friends, and create lasting memories through different activities like sports and games, arts and crafts, science experiments and more, all based on the weekly theme and interests of the campers. Day campers will be divided into small groups by age and will participate in activities appropriate to the interests and needs of their group.

HIGH FIVES

High Fives is a perfect fit for our younger campers. With staff supervision at low ratios, campers will spend their action-packed days doing arts and crafts, science projects, playing games and learning new skills.

LIT FIELDWORK

Ages 13-17 | SEARCH CODE: CPLITF42 FIND SESSIONS
LIT Fieldwork is an opportunity for teens who have successfully completed our training course to use their leadership skills in the field of camp and enjoy the rewards of working with the YMCA’s incredible staff. Teens will experience various camp programs, assist in the daily operations of camp, and receive valuable on-the-job experience that will help build a strong foundation for either a recreational or childcare career. Teens will be placed into age-appropriate camps prior to the start of the fieldwork week. Join our team in making a difference in the lives of many young campers this summer while earning school-required or volunteer service hours!

CIT FIELDWORK

Ages 13-17 | SEARCH CODE: CPCITF42 FIND SESSIONS
CIT Fieldwork is geared toward teens who are beginning the transition to becoming camp counselors. They will have additional responsibilities and expectations that are more aligned with those of our staff. Teens will earn school-required volunteer service hours by participating in this program. This is the perfect opportunity to complete this requirement and make a difference in our camp community!

LIT/CIT TRAINING

Ages 13-17 | SEARCH CODE: CPLCITT42 FIND SESSIONS
The Leaders in Training (LIT) and Counselors In Training (CIT) program is required each year for all participants, regardless of past experience in the program. In this training, your teen will interact in developing the idea of what a leader does and how a leader acts. In addition, there will be specific training on camp leadership skills, working with campers ages 5–12, camp songs, games and crafts. All participants will get certified in CPR and First Aid.

ARCHERY

Ages 9-12 | SEARCH CODE: CPARCH42 FIND SESSIONS
Bull’s-eye! This summer, take a shot at a fun sport with ACA certified YMCA archery instructors. With steady hands and straight aim, our little archers will be learning about equipment, shooting and technique. Campers will also participate in themed craft activities and games. All equipment needed to participate will be included.

BASKETBALL

Your camper could learn to be the next big NBA star with this fundamental sports week. Daily activities include instruction in dribbling, passing, shooting and positioning. This camp is perfect for young athletes looking for a summer building strong, fundamental skills.

BIG MESSY ART

Let your campers immerse themselves from head to toe in art projects including pendulum painting, splat painting and art installations. All the while, they will learn about the artists behind these techniques — some of whom are even scientists.

CHEER

This high energy camp will focus on all aspects of cheerleading. Throughout the week campers will work on jumps, arm movements and choreography. Cheerleaders will work on their routines and cheer skills each day while also enjoying arts and crafts.

Cooking and Chemistry

Make awesome culinary concoctions while learning about the wonders of science! We use cooking as a mode to teach kids about the chemical properties of certain foods and how phenomena such as heating, cooling, stirring and other cooking related actions can fundamentally alter an inedible substance or group of substances in the delicious food we enjoy every day.

DANCE

Join America’s best kids dance crew! Campers will be separated into age groups to learn different genres of music and dance. Work as a team to create a unique style and choreography. Join us for a special performance on Friday for friends and family!

DINO

We are now offering Dinosaur Camp, perfect for children that are into dinosaurs and/or archeology. We will take a journey through the Triassic, Cretaceous and Jurassic periods, looking at the dinosaurs that lived in each, making lots of dinosaur crafts, playing fun dinosaur games and doing just a little bit of digging for fossils!

Enchanted Fairies

Ages 5-8 | SEARCH CODE: CPEF42 FIND SESSIONS
Welcome to the whimsical world of enchanted fairies! Celebrate your favorite characters and help write stories of your own. Campers will create costumes and special crafts to share with friends and family!

Flag Football

Ages 5-8 | SEARCH CODE: CPFLGF42 FIND SESSIONS
Down, set… hike! Join the YMCA’s instructional flag football camp. Camp will include the fundamentals of passing, catching, blocking and kicking. Daily scrimmages will emphasize basic football strategy; no special equipment required.

Going Global Cooking

Ages 9-12 | SEARCH CODE: CPGGCK42 FIND SESSIONS
Does your camper want to explore the world? Each day your camper will learn about a different country. Campers will learn about the culture and history of each county through games, crafts and food projects. Take home projects to teach your friends and family about the world! Camp will include a service project to help support children in need from around the world.

HARRY POTTER

Ages 5-8 | SEARCH CODE: CPHP42 FIND SESSIONS
Welcome to Hogwarts! Campers will be sorted into their magical houses where they will work together to compete in themed crafts, games and projects. Explore the world of Harry Potter by creating a wand, playing Quidditch, and becoming a potion master.

ITTY BITTY AQUATICS

Ages 5-8 | SEARCH CODE: CPIBA42 FIND SESSIONS
Campers will have a 30 minute swim lesson each day with Y swim instructors, get comfortable in the water, learn how to float and tread water. Campers will end the day with a 45-minute free swim to play and have fun with the entire camp. Campers will also participate in traditional camp activities like arts & crafts, songs and games. Swimmers may be required to wear life jackets during free swim.

ITTY BITTY MUSIC

Ages 5-8 | SEARCH CODE: CPIBM42 FIND SESSIONS
If your little one loves music, then this is the place for them. Itty Bitty Music is the perfect way for your child to learn the fundamentals of music and have a lot of fun in the process. Our instructor will be teaching the most basic beats and notes by having the kids play along with a variety of easy-to-use instruments such as drums, shakers, flutes and many more! Campers will also be making their own instruments to personalize and take home.

ITTY BITTY SPORTS

Why pick one sport when you can play them all? Each day will focus on a different sport such as soccer, basketball, football, dodgeball and more. This camp is designed to teach campers recreational sports and the value of exercise. Focus will be placed on team play and skill development.

LEGO WEDO ROBOTICS

Explore the world of robotics with the LEGO WeDo system! Learn about physics concepts like friction, explore gear ratios, energy sources and more! Build a Lunar Rover or a helicopter, all while learning about different sensors. Once you finish building your project, learn block coding to make your robot come to life!

LITTLE GARDENERS

Do you have a green thumb? Now is a great time to find out! In this camp, little gardeners will learn the ins and outs of gardening as well as how to help their gardens grow. Campers will explore the surrounding nature, plants, and animals around camp, and create different projects from their finds.

LITTLE SCIENTISTS

Unleash your inner scientist as we get exponentially messy. Campers will experiment with foamy explosions, gooey projects and so much more! Campers will also have fun as they participate in camp games, songs and crafts. Please send your camper to camp in clothes that can get messy..

MAGIC

Abra kadabra! Magic camp offers campers the ability to get a plethora of different magic tricks and learn how to use each one to put on a spectacular show! In addition to these many tricks, we will also be building magical wardrobes with a variety of magical crafts, and playing lots of fun, magical games to test their knowledge and skill as magicians-to-be and as campers who just want to have a lot of fun!

Ooey Gooey Science

This camp is perfect for the funster that loves to get their hands dirty! Funsters will dig and experiment in the slimiest, gooiest, ickiest and stickiest stuff they can get their hands on! This STEM based camp is sure to be slimy, yet satisfying!

OUTRAGEOUS ART

School’s out - so let your inner artist shine! Campers will use a variety of creative techniques to create daily masterpieces and memories. Get your frames ready to display your camper’s work of art!

Pokémon Camp

Campers, we choose you! Discover the wonderful world of Pokémon full of mysterious creatures and plenty of adventures. In this camp you’ll learn about newly released Pokémon and brush up on facts about the classics, while learning the craft of battling, creating new Pokémon, and so much more!

RADICAL REPTILES AND FRIENDS

Meet the cold-blooded creatures of the animal world as you are introduced to snakes, frogs, tortoises, turtles, lizards, bugs and other creepy crawlies. This camp will have you collaborating with reptiles and friends. Your hands-on experience will be enhanced by art projects, games and activities that investigate the lives of reptiles. If you like reptiles and creepy crawlies, this is certainly the camp for you.

ROBOTHINK CODING

Join the world of video games using Scratch 2.0, a visual language targeted to children. RoboThink campers will create cool projects and learn coding concepts by using this simple, yet powerful block-like interface.

ROBOTHINK ROBOTICS

RoboThink campers will learn robotics and coding in Scratch! (S4A) and Graphical Python while building cool robots using bricks, gears, wheels, sensors, electric motors and Arduino boards.

SOCCER

Your young soccer fan will get a kick out of this camp! The YMCA will provide instruction featuring daily clinics, scrimmages and tournament play. Drills will focus on dribbling, passing, shooting and position techniques.

SPLASH

What’s more epic in summer than sun and swimming? Enjoying two hours of daily water time at the South Bay Family YMCA aquatics center that includes a daily 30-minute swim lesson! Swim lessons are divided by height and taught by YMCA-certified swim instructors.

SPORTS GALORE

Welcome to the Y’s world of sports! During the week campers will learn about multiple sports including flag football, soccer and basketball. Learn the value of teamwork, while being introduced to the fundamentals of each sport.

STEM and Splash

Campers will spend their day exploring STEM projects and practicing swimming skills. Enjoy 2 hours of daily water time at the South Bay Family YMCA, including a daily 30-minutes swim lesson! Swim lessons are divided by height and taught by YMCA certified swim instructors. Campers will be separated into groups by grade.

TEEN SCENE

Summer camps aren’t just for kids! The YMCA offers fun and challenging camp activities specifically tailored to preteens and teens. Teens will have fun as they learn, grow and thrive under the guidance of caring, well-trained staff members.

THEATER

Ages 13-17 | SEARCH CODE: CPTHR42 FIND SESSIONS
Take the stage and shine in Theater Camp! Your camper will work with theater professionals to go through casting, rehearsal, stage and prop design, choreography and much more. This will lead to a group performance. Family and friends are welcome to cheer on their stars at Friday’s show.

About Our Staff

South Bay Family YMCA takes pride in hiring the best people to fill our camp staff. Each camp leader was hand-selected through an extensive hiring process to ensure the safest environment for everyone. Staff training includes CPR and First Aid certification, transportation safety, behavior management and bully prevention, child protection and abuse prevention, field trip and off-site safety procedures, risk management/prevention and more.


PAYING FOR CAMP

At the time of registration, you may choose to:

  • Pay in full (includes a $50 non-refundable deposit)
  • Place a $50 non-refundable deposit at the time of registration. Balances will be due the Monday prior to the first day of camp.
  • An active membership is required at the time of the program start date to receive the member pricing discount.
  • Financial assistance is available through the Y's ACCESS scholarship program.

Deposits are non-refundable but can be immediately applied as a deposit for another camp if space is available or applied to an already existing camp balance within the same summer. See our Refund/Voucer/Transfer Policies for more information.

Waitlists

When a day camp session is full, you may add your child to a waitlist enrollment — choose "Join Waitlist" during the registration process when signing up online. We’ll provide an update via email that lists all day camps with open availability. Registration is first come, first served. We recommend that families check the website often, as other spaces may become available prior to email communications going out.

UPDATED SAFETY GUIDELINES:

Your family's safety is our top priority. We have implemented safety protocols that follow state and local guidelines. It's our priority to help your children enjoy a safe and fun program that builds lasting friendships.

Medical Release Form - Required

In order to register, all campers must have a current medical release form updated and submitted to the YMCA after January 2023. Medical release forms can be updated through your My Y account in our Community Portal.

Vendor Waivers

Some specialty camps, particularly those that travel to an off-site location, require an additional vendor waiver. Camps that require a waiver to be completed will be contacted and provided the waiver before the start of camp.

Camp Scholarships

Financial assistance is available to families who qualify. Applications are available at the service desk and online. Assistance is based on verified income and completed applications.
