Our Programs
Introductory Classes
Designed specifically for our youngest dancers, introductory classes prepare students to move on to technique classes, including:
Technique Classes
Our fun and constructive environment provides high-quality dance education to both children and adults. We offer more than 70 classes each week in variety of dance styles. Youth technique classes are available for dancers ages 3 to 16, and adult classes ages 16+.
Our youth technique dancers participate in recitals that occur at the end of each 16-week dance session. Adults may participate in our full-length dance productions.
Taking part in a recital helps dancers to overcome shyness, fear, anxiety and stage fright. It gives students a chance to showcase all of their hard work, dedication and progress throughout the year. The experience of getting on a stage, performing for an audience, and being applauded for their efforts helps dancers gain self-confidence that will carry with them in all aspects of school and life!
Technique dance styles include:
Ballet
Ballet is the foundation for dance. We focus on developing a solid ballet technique with emphasis on understanding correct body placement, proper use of turn out, coordination of the upper body and use of arms.
Jazz Dance
Jazz combines techniques of ballet and modern dance with the current forms of popular dance.
Contemporary/Lyrical Dance
Contemporary/lyrical classes blend ballet and jazz dancing.
Hip-Hop Dance
High-energy hip-hop classes use the latest music and dance moves from music videos and dances
Tap Dance
Tap classes emphasizes clarity of sound, rhythm, coordination and speed with special shoes that have metal plates on the toes and heels.
YMCA Dance Productions — Ages 4+
Our dance productions provide a unique opportunity for our more serious students to participate in a full-length dance production. In addition to at least one weekly technique class, dancers are required to attend weekly rehearsals. The benefits of participation in stage productions are physical, emotional and social, and they help to develop a healthy appreciation of culture and the arts.
Expressions Dance Team — Ages 9+
Dancers may be invited to audition for YMCA Dance Expressions. Dance team members participate in a minimum of three weekly technique classes in addition to weekly rehearsals. Members attend additional events centered on community performances. Dance teachers will prepare these serious students for their dance goals beyond high school.
Adult Dance — Ages 12+
Our adult dance classes are tailored to welcome all levels, especially beginners. Step into the studio and see what all the fun is about! You can ‘drop-in’ for a single class or purchase a class card. Class cards valid all days, times and styles. (Class Cards are nonrefundable.)
