GYMNASTICS AT THE COPLEY-PRICE FAMILY YMCA

A gymnastics journey that grows with you

Welcome to Copley-Price Family YMCA gymnastics — a place to grow, from your very first class to your final year on the competitive team. Toddlers, teens and adults alike build strength, confidence and coordination in a supportive, skill-focused environment. Our classes follow USA Gymnastics levels and progressions, so every gymnast has a clear path forward — from that first cartwheel all the way to advanced tumbling and team competition.

PRESCHOOL GYMNASTICS

Accompanied by a caregiver, children learn to be comfortable in a gymnasium setting while setting the stage for a healthy lifestyle. This safe, fun and supportive environment enhances motor development and eye-hand coordination through various skill-focused rotations and free playtime.

A bridge from Parent/Child classes to preschool gymnastics, with a caregiver still by their side. Kids build confidence and independence while learning trampoline, bars, beam and floor skills — using obstacle courses, parachutes and songs to develop balance, coordination, strength and motor skills.

Preschoolers build confidence in this independent class, learning trampoline, bars, beam and floor skills while following a coach’s direction. Obstacle courses, parachutes and songs make skill-focused rotations fun while developing balance, coordination, flexibility and strength. Please note: children must be able to separate from a caregiver for this class

SPECIALTY GYMNASTICS

Designed to match a preschooler’s boundless energy, introduce your little ninja to parkour while working on coordination, speed and balance while enhancing motor development and eye-hand coordination. Rotations on various gymnastic equipment teach children to run, vault, climb and roll over obstacles.

Cheerleaders will learn the basic fundamentals of cheer in this non-competitive class. With a focus on arm motions, jumps, stunts and specific cheer terminology, athletes will gain proper technique and routine sequence while incorporating basic tumbling skills such as rolls, bridges, handstands and cartwheels. Stretching and conditioning are important components to achieving proper cheer strength and stamina.

Our parkour classes teach skills like vaulting, precision’s, flips, climbing techniques and more. These skills are used together to move through all sorts of environments. Students learn to break down more complex movements and concepts into more simple steps for progress. Not only does this condition the body to adapt, but also trains the mind to look at the physical world in a whole new way.

Advanced tumbling students work on front tumbling and multiple trick skills and combinations. Tumblers refine their skills by adding multiple back handsprings, back handspring to a back tuck, back handspring to a layout, and a layout full twist. Coach evaluation is required.

COMPETITIVE GYMNASTICS

Pre-Team is the first step in entering competitive gymnastics. They learn routines for all events and compete at our Y-League competitions with other YMCA Pre-Teams. This allows them to gain experience in competitive gymnastics before they enter our Competitive Team! Pre-Team practices two days per week, two and a half hours per day.

Coach Invite Required | Please email our Gymnastics Director, Rikki Maraya-Herrada at rmaraya-herrada@ymcasd.org, and Head Coach, Warren Moff, at wmoff@ymcasd.org for more information.

Our Junior Olympics program (Levels 3–10) offers two paths: compulsory, where gymnasts master standardized USA Gymnastics routines to build a strong foundation, and optional, where more advanced gymnasts perform unique routines on each event. This is a year-round commitment requiring auto-pay tuition, with competition fees and uniforms as additional costs.
