While state and local regulations prevent us from operating our traditional programs at YMCA Camp Surf this fall, they do allow us to offer Family Camping at Camp Surf. This unique experience is available for families to come and experience a seaside getaway together! Fall asleep to the sounds of the crashing waves after fun-filled days exploring the shore! Walk to Imperial Beach or drive to nearby Coronado for shopping and dining opportunities.
Family Camping opportunities are also available at our sister camp YMCA Camp Marston in the mountains of Julian.
Enjoy your weekend stay in your own private cabin. Each bunk has its own window, reading light, and storage for personal items. Restrooms are centrally located and shared facilities that will be cleaned and sanitized throughout each day. Families must provide their own twin-size bed linens and bath towels. Cabins are heated by radiant heaters when necessary and cooled by ceiling fans and the ocean breeze.

Families will have the opportunity to participate in self-guided activities. Guests will be responsible for sanitizing the equipment before and after use. Camp staff will sanitize equipment periodically throughout the day. Due to our limited staffing, there will be NO Lifeguards On-Duty at YMCA Camp Surf and therefore we cannot provide surfboards or bodyboards during your stay. The Imperial Beach lifeguard service patrols from 7:00 am - dusk on the beaches just south of camp. Surfboards may be rented from the local Surf Hut surf shop.
Below are some fun-filled Camp Surf activities for your family to experience together:
- GaGa Ball
- Bouldering Wall
- Sand Volleyball
- Beach Walks
- Fishing (bring your own rods/tackle)
- Explore the Tijuana Estuary
- Skateboard halfpipe (bring your own skateboard and pads, helmet required)
- Beach campfires
Foodservice will not be provided on-site during your stay. Please plan on bringing a cooler and (optional) cook stove as cabins do not have kitchens/refrigerators/stoves. Food may be stored in cabins, however, all cooking must be done outside in designated areas. Many fantastic restaurants are operating within easy walking distance from Camp Surf.

Beach Camping – Spring, Summer and Fall
Bring your own tent, camp right on the sand and wake up to ocean views. Pack light as the beach is 1/4 mile from the parking lot and you can make the most of your time here. Most families will beach camp and there will be a shared area set aside just for families.
We will have communal fire pits available on the beach as well.
Cabins – Spring and Fall Only
We have a variety of different style cabins. Our traditional cabins sleep up to 16 people and our canvas sided cabins and “cabents” sleep up to 12. They are clustered around each of our 2 bathroom and shower blocks. Waterman Village awaits adventurous campers not afraid to walk in the dark. Waterman is solar powered and has it’s own private fire pit and a large gazebo.
Limited cabins are available for spring and fall dates only- Cabins are not guaranteed for all guests and availability is limited and hold between 12 and 16 guests. You will need a minimum of 12 people to request a cabin.
Wetsuit rentals are currently unavailable due to COVID-19
We have spring suits (short arms and short legs) in a large variety of sizes including mens, womens, boys, and girls if you would like to rent a wetsuit during your stay with us.
