Experience school at the beach

We are very excited to plan our return to youth camping at YMCA Camp Surf. The California Department of Health recently announced that overnight camps will be permitted starting in summer. For health and safety, COVID procedures will be in place (masks, distancing, health screening, sanitation).

Camp will continue building friendships and fun in the great outdoors. As we bring our camps back up to full speed we look forward to planning your groups next adventure here at Camp Surf. We appreciate your patience as we want to give each request the proper attention it deserves. Please contact us by emailing Kyle Millard at [email protected] with your contact information.

With so many unknowns surrounding COVID-19 and it's effects on camp operations this year we created a FAQ page to answer your most commonly asked questions. This page will be updated frequently as the situation evolves. Now more than ever, our campers will need the meaningful social connections that camp provides. Stick with us as work to ensure a safe, healthy and fun camp experience.

Thousands of students experience the excitement of the Outdoor and Environmental Education (OEE) program at YMCA Camp Surf every year, exploring coastal ecosystems, understanding natural resources, and improving outdoor and group building skills. Our naturalist staff hails from across the United States and around the globe. They are hired for science skills, teaching experience, and their enthusiasm.

Our program is designed for 4th through 6th-grade students, but can be tailored to any age group. Students spend from 3 to 5 days participating in hands-on classes such as Marshes Aren’t Mellow, Kelp Connections, Hop Into Habitats, Jetty Rocks, CSI (Critter Skull Investigation), Estuary Exploration, Sea Survival, Orienteering, Beach Bound, and more. Evening activities provide fun and fellowship for students, teachers, and parents.

  • Affordable programs
  • Unique location – beach, wetland, and intertidal communities
  • Fun outdoor experiences that reinforce learning and discovery
  • Students love our fun classes.
  • Teachers appreciate our curriculum which aligns with California and Arizona State Science Content Standards.
