We're proud introduce you to Andy Prouty, who has shared his expertise at Rancho Family YMCA for 15 years. Andy's lifelong passion for karate began in 1989 while he was a UC San Diego freshman looking to learn practical self-defense skills, build fitness and take a break from studying.
Over the years, he has expanded his knowledge, studying Shito-Ryu karate, a popular Japanese/Okinawan style which is recognized by the Olympic committee, and traveling to seminars and workshops throughout the US and Canada. He won the National Team Kata competition in 2000 and 2001.
Eventually, Andy landed at Rancho Family Y, where he began teaching Cardio Karate as a fitness class, sports classes and self-defense workshops. We're thrilled to be expanding the martial arts programming now, with a teen/adult class and, coming soon, a weekend family class.
