Safety Around Water
Strong Swimmers, Confident Kids • February
Join us for our Safety Around Water campaign — a program dedicated to teaching your child critical drown-prevention skills. Swim safety is vitally important to fulfilling the Y’s mission and cause. Because we are devoted to the well-being of every person involved in Y programs, ensuring water safety is an important part of what we do every day. Equip your children with the tools they need to be confident in and around water. This program is free for members and participants.
Get Ready to Dive In • March 13, May 15, July 17, September 11, Novemeber 13
Our competitive swim teams are for youth swimmers with a range of ability levels. Our coaches maintain a positive and challenging environment where swimmers can learn and train together as a team, pushing each other to succeed with individual discipline, encouragement, and pride. Emphasis is placed on developing the four competitive strokes, technique; racing skills, and endurance, while focusing on teamwork, healthy competition, and fun. There are three swim team levels for ages 5-17, based on age and ability. The training schedule is dependent on level and available options. Swim meets are optional and held on weekends at various San Diego YMCA locations. Prior to trying out for swim team, swimmers should be proficient in front crawl, backstroke, breast stroke and be able to tread water for 1 minute. Try-outs will be held at 3:30pm for each tryout. Love Your Heart Day
Blood Pressure Screenings • February 14 • 9:00 - 11:00 am
Get your blood pressure checked and see how the Y can help you lower and maintain healthy numbers! Love Your Heart is a one-day, annual event in which organizations from across the U.S. and Mexico join together to provide FREE blood pressure screenings to the public on Valentine’s Day. Last year’s Love Your Heart event helped over 50,000 people get to know their blood pressure numbers and take charge of their heart health!
