Welcoming Week promotes cross-cultural understanding and community cohesion by bringing together immigrants and U.S.-born residents in a spirit of unity. Our members can park in the San Diego County Assessor's office parking lot located at 9225 Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, weekdays after 5:00pm and all day on Saturdays. Additional parking is available at National University during YMCA operating hours.

CHILD WATCH

Y Community Plus members with family memberships have unlimited access to Child Watch services at 12 YMCA branch locations across San Diego County. With easy reservations through the YMCA app, you can focus on your fitness or unwind at the Y while your children play under the supervision of highly trained YMCA staff. Not yet a Y Community Plus member? Current Y members can upgrade to the Y Community Plus membership plan by stopping by any location. 9-Week Half Marathon Training Program

Tuesday, September 3 – Saturday, November 2

This 9-week half marathon training program is designed to prepare runners of all levels for a successful race day. The program incorporates a balanced mix of running workouts, strength training, and group runs to build endurance, speed, and overall fitness. BARBELL BASICS

Master the fundamentals of the three major barbell lifts in our four-week Barbell Basics course — squats, deadlifts and bench presses. Designed for all skill levels, this program will help you learn how to perform these exercises safely and effectively and how to incorporate them into a comprehensive workout routine. With sessions twice a week, you'll work closely with a certified trainer to refine your form and technique, ensuring you can execute these essential lifts confidently and safely. UCSD WITS/ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH PRESENTATION

Join experts from UCSD for an informative presentation on Alzheimer’s disease, specifically focusing on women’s health. Please note that this is purely an informational presentation, and no study will be conducted. Ages 55+. This event is free to attend. Register online today!

  • Toby Wells YMCA | Wednesday, September 25, 2024 | 10:30–11:30am

The presentation will include:

  • An overview of Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, and its early brain changes that can occur years before symptoms appear.
  • Insights from the Women Inflammation and Tau Study (WITS) by UCSD, which uses brain imaging, thinking tests, biological fluid testing, and wearable technology to investigate potential biological and lifestyle factors contributing to Alzheimer’s in women.
  • Discussion on why women, who represent two-thirds of Alzheimer’s cases, are at higher risk, including emerging research on biological factors and sex differences.
  • Examination of lifestyle factors such as sleep, physical activity, diet, sex hormones, and inflammation that may influence Alzheimer’s-related brain changes.

HEALTH AND WELLNESS ORIENTATION

We want all of our members to get the most out of their experiences at the Y! A complimentary 30-minute fitness orientation is available to new and existing members to help you start on the path to success and reach your wellness goals.

Our trained staff will take you on a guided tour of the fitness center, show you how to operate equipment and explain what you need to know to help you feel comfortable.

During your orientation, you will

  • Tour the Fitness Center & Group Exercise Studios
  • Learn the layout and equipment at your YMCA
  • Review equipment safety, setup and proper form 
  • Provide direction to help you get started and answer your questions

GRAVITY Total Body Workout

The GRAVITY Training System has a rolling glide board, various resistance levels and a dynamic cable pulley system that allow you to use your own body weight against the pull of gravity. With more than 250 exercise options, a GRAVITY workout is never boring and is always efficient. Engage all major muscle groups for strength and endurance training, stretching, Pilates, and core training. We offer a variety of class types, including Pilates, Core, Healthy Joint, Total-Body Workout (TBW) and more. Private sessions are available. FAMILYFIT ORIENTATIONS

All youth ages 7-12 must complete a FamilyFIT Orientation before using our fitness centers. This orientation helps families achieve their health goals at the Y by learning proper exercise techniques, correct and safe usage of equipment and guidelines for the fitness center and group exercise classes. 

Drop in to our weekly Family Orientations:

  • Wednesdays at 4:30pm 
  • Saturdays at 10:30am 

Space is limited, and reservations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Meet at the Fitness Center Kiosk at the designated time for the Fitness Orientation.

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA engages cancer survivors through an approach that focuses on the whole person — mind and body. Through this program participants work with trained Y staff to improve cardiovascular endurance and functional ability, build muscle mass and strength, and increase flexibility. In addition to physical benefits, the program also focuses on the mental and emotional well-being of survivors and their families. This creates a supportive community environment where people affected by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. Get more information online here

Join certified Personal Trainer Laura in a month-long beginner training program. You will learn how to maximize your workout in the fitness center with a warm-up, proper technique on the machines and a cool-down.  Get moving towards your health goals! This program is offered monthly: September, October and November.
