The YMCA needs volunteers to support our external and internal programming efforts. This season, we have a particular need for youth sports coaches. Our season cannot happen without the support of volunteer coaches. CHILD WATCH

Y Community Plus members with family memberships have unlimited access to Child Watch services at 12 YMCA branch locations across San Diego County. With easy reservations through the YMCA app, you can focus on your fitness or unwind at the Y while your children play under the supervision of highly trained YMCA staff. Not yet a Y Community Plus member? Current Y members can upgrade to the Y Community Plus membership plan by stopping by any location. If you currently have Child Watch services as an add-on to your family membership, you may continue to use Child Watch services on a drop-in basis. Learn more here.

We are excited to announce that we have a Community Health Navigator at our Y that can connect you with services that are covered through Medi-Cal, including preventive health services, health education, assistance with navigating the healthcare system, connecting individuals to community resources and much more. DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM: MEASURABLE PROGRESS & UNLIMITED SUPPORT

Did you know that 1 in 3 U.S. adults are living with pre-diabetes? If you are ready to reclaim your health, we can help! The Y’s Diabetes Prevention Program is a CDC-approved lifestyle change program for those at risk for developing Type 2 diabetes. Over 12 months, participants meet in small groups to focus on long-term changes and lasting results. Learn more here.

FOOD AND NUTRITION BASICS WORKSHOP SERIES

Tuesdays | Now – January 25, 2025 | 10:15am–12:15pm

This course teaches how to incorporate food and nutrition to maintain and optimize the health of older adults, focusing on the relationship between nutrition and chronic conditions. Learn to interpret nutrition fact panels for informed grocery shopping, and get tips on preparing economical, balanced, and nutrient-dense meals and snacks. Some classes include a food demo or tasting. While the instruction is tailored for adults 55+, anyone 18 and older is welcome to join.

OPEN PLAY IN THE GYMNASIUM

LIVESTRONG AT THE YMCA

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA engages cancer survivors through an approach that focuses on the whole person — mind and body. Through this program participants work with trained Y staff to improve cardiovascular endurance and functional ability, build muscle mass and strength, and increase flexibility. In addition to physical benefits, the program also focuses on the mental and emotional well-being of survivors and their families. This creates a supportive community environment where people affected by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond. Get more information online here.

Come out and play! Leagues, clinics and peewee lessons are available for young athletes looking for fun, friendly competition. Check with our sports department for more information. — Register today!

  • Shoot holiday hoops and make seasonal scores with Y winter holiday leagues in December! Enjoy playing the sports you love with your friends. Choose your team and coach and fill out a sports roster by December 2. Sports rosters can be found at the sports department office. View age divisions and practice times below. - Register today! 
    • Basketball - December 4-19 | Ages 7-17| Practices during the week.
    • Soccer - December 2-17 | Ages 7-17 | Practices during the week.
  • Youth leagues and clinics for ages 5-17
    • Soccer - Leagues and clinics are available! Leagues begin now! Registration remains open until teams are full. Monthly clinics are available for boys and girls of beginner levels. We are proud to partner with San Diego Wave FC for our youth soccer leagues!

  • Swim requirements: Swimmers should be proficient in 50-100 yards freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 yards of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.

The Jackie Robinson Family YMCA invites San Diego youth to join the 2025 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Poetry & Art Contest and express how Dr. King's legacy inspires joy and unity within themselves and their communities. Students from grades K-12 can submit original work as art, poetry, essays, or spoken word to compete for prizes, with first-place winners earning a $100 gift card.
