BOXING AT THE YMCA

Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves and other protective equipment such as hand wraps and mouthguards, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring. Boxing originated from fist-fighting and eventually became a regulated sport that is commonly used non-competitively as part of a great, cardiovascular exercise routine.

BOXING PROGRAMS

Boxing programs at the YMCA involve regular exercises, such as stretching, bicycling, running, jump-roping, push-ups, balancing combined with non-contact boxing, led byBoxing with Tikal at Copley-Price Family YMCA experienced trainers/coaches. Boxing classes can range from cardio-focused, fitness boxing classes to the more technical study of the sport through technical boxing classes. Technical boxing classes are for youth and adults who are interested in learning proper boxing techniques including the proper stance, footwork, how to throw a variety of punches, defense and the different styles of boxing – giving a more solid foundation in technique. Technical boxing coaches provide more one-on-one instruction with mitt work. Boxing classes are a great way to meet new people, challenge yourself and switch up your fitness routine.
