Adventure Clubs Aloha Hula Bowl
Adventure Clubs • January 26
Bowling for pins, bowling for strikes, bowling for fun! Put on your Hawaiian shirts and grass skirts and join your Circle and the rest of the Nation for a great day at the bowling alley. The highest scores and the best Hawaiian costumes will receive awards. Registration includes 2 hours of bowling, shoes, Hawaiian lei and an event patch. You can either pack a sack lunch, or the snack bar will be open. There are limited spaces available so register ASAP!
Gymnastics Mini Meet
Flipping Fun • January 25
Join us for this Mini Meet where our gymnasts will have the opportunity to perform in front of family and friends. Each group will perform a floor routine, tumbling passes and vault passes. Our TeamGym members will help judge each event and each group gets a score and a medal at the end of the meet. Dress rehearsal takes place on January 24. La Jolla Lightning YMCA Swim Team
Strong Swimmers, Confident Kids • Multiple Dates and Times Available
The La Jolla Lightning Swim Team (LJ Lightning) is a competitive swim team that strives to provide the best opportunity for kids to achieve success in and out of the pool. With a focus on team building, the coaches are committed to providing each swimmer with an environment that fosters personal growth, goal development and team unity. The LJ Lightning offers a complete program for all ages and level from beginning development swimmers to swimmers who are committed and striving for USA swimming time standards and success. Any swimmer interested in joining swim team must set up a time to do swim evaluation with the Head Coach to determine which group on the swim team will be the bets fit for them. The swimmer must have knowledge and ability to perform all 4 competitive strokes for 25 yerads: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.

At the YMCA, we offer a multitude of different gymnastic classes and combination gymnastic classes designed to teach young children the basics of several different sports.
Youth Parkour Lessons

Students will learn how to run, vault, flip, climb, and roll over obstacles. The goal of these classes will be to teach students how to safely maneuver through their environment in a fun and creative way.
Winter Youth Sports

No matter your child's age of interest, we have a fun and engaging program for it that focuses on teamwork, friendly competition, athletics and encouragement.
Our multi-sport programs promote fitness by providing an introduction to a wide variety of sports, games and a variety of enrichment activities while emphasizing character values and sportsmanship.
Dan McKinney Family YMCA leads the way in youth basketball! Our league is designed for all players from beginner to advanced skill levels. Players will be coached on the rules and strategies of the game in practice and in play. Teams are coached and supported by parent volunteers and YMCA staff with an emphasis on equal participation and sportsmanship.

Model United Nations Program
Gain Real Life Experience • January - May
The California YMCA Youth and Government Model United Nations program is a simulation of the “real-life” United Nations Assembly. Participants in the Model United Nations (MUN) will take part in some of the activities that the real U.N. participates in. Ambassadors will research, debate and establish policies, treaties and resolutions focusing on international issues, including disputes between countries, peace keeping responsibilities, border crisis, stabilizing financial markets and dealing with hunger, disease and poverty. There will be an informational meeting on January 6 at the Dan McKinney Family YMCA at 6:30 pm.
New Year Cooking Classes
Start the Year Off Healthy • January
Join us at the Dan McKinney Family YMCA this new year to learn how to make healthier holiday recipes!
- Healthy Kids Meals: Tuesdays, January 7-28 at 5:30pm: Learn from Justin how to make the most delicious healthy kids’ snacks and meals! This is hands-on fun for children Ages 3 and up.
- Plant-Based Eating: Saturdays, January 11-February 1 at 11:00am: Come learn the basics of following a healthy whole-food plant-based diet in the kitchen with Maggie this New Year!
- Resolution Menu: Monday, January 13 at 11:30am: Cappie will show you how to get on track in the New Year with healthy meals!
Body Transformation Challenge
Get Ready to Sweat • January 4-February 15
Join us for a transformation challenge!
- Attend at least two BODYPUMP classes per week
- Includes two InBody assessments, one nutrition class and one BODYPUMP fundamentals class
- Winner of the challenge will receive five personal training or nutrition sessions

Private Yoga Sessions

Benefit from focused attention, hands-on alignment, coaching and adjustments to ensure your yogic experience meets your individual needs! Your instructor will focus on teaching you the fundamentals of common postures and yogic breathing techniques, and answer any questions you have. A private session also offers the perfect introduction to yoga or if you are returning to yoga and want to learn special modifications and techniques that you can apply to your practice in class and at home. The YMCA offers a variety of martial arts classes for different ages and skill levels. These classes are a great way to learn self-discipline, self-esteem, and respect.

Treating The Whole Person • Appointments Available Daily
Reike is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. Reike as a treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and well-being.
Hayashi-Ha Family Karate
Learn Self-Defense • Appointments Available Daily
Hayashi-ha Karate is traditional Japanese karate-do classes taught by certified members of Japan Hayashi-ha Shito-ryukai with over 20 years of experience. Perfect for all all ages, Hayashi-ha teaches fighting basics such as punches, kicks and blocks, Kata (forms), Kumite (sparring), stretching, strength conditioning, self-defense techniques, as well as games and other activities.
Classes are divided into two groups:
Beginner/Novice Class for white through purple belts of all ages.
- Intermediate/Advanced Class for green through black of all ages as well.
All new students are required to attend the beginner/novice class until they meet the requirements of the instructor to attend the intermediate/advanced class.
