COMPETITIVE SWIM TEAMS

Our YMCA Swim Team programs offer a fun and challenging environment for swimmers who can already demonstrate basic skills and are ready to take those skills to the next level! We welcome dedicated swimmers who want to compete with teammates and improve their skills. Youth who join YMCA swim teams not only become better swimmers, they also learn camaraderie, discipline and respect.

Swim team programs are led by certified swimming instructors and coaches who have years of competitive experience with all ages and school levels. Emphasis is placed on developing the four competitive strokes, techniques, racing skills, and endurance, while focusing on teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy competition. Our coaches encourage swimmers every step of the way to improve and do their personal best while training together as a team. Being on the swim team is a great way to meet new friends, work out and have fun - all at the same time!

Our Swim Team goals are:

  • To help swimmer reach their full potential as confident swimmers.
  • To help swimmer learn good sportsmanship and being part of a team.
  • To help promote lifelong fitness for all of our members.
  • To teach swimmer character development including Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

Find a Swim Team

Dive into one of our swim team programs for youth ages 5-17 and discover high-level competition and coaching combined with fun, safety and encouragement! Swimmers will be placed on a swim team level based on their age and ability.

Swim Requirements and Swim Team Levels:

  • Novice: 50 yards freestyle and kick 100 yards in IM (25 yards butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle).
  • Bronze: 100 yards freestyle and 50 yards backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke, and 25 yards fly. Must do flip turns.
  • Silver X2 and Silver X3: 3x100 freestyle on 2:00 minutes and kick 100 yards in IM (25 yards butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle), and 100 IM. All strokes must be legal.
  • Gold: 3x100 freestyle on 1:50-2:00 minutes, kick 200 yards in IM (50 yards butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle), 200 yards freestyle, and 100 IM.  All strokes must be legal.
  • Platinum: 3x100 freestyle on 1:35-1:45 minutes, kick 200 yards in IM (50 yards butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and freestyle), 100 IM, and 200 yards freestyle. All strokes, starts and dives must be legal.

Advanced Adaptive Swim Team

Our Advanced Adaptive Swim Team is designed for children with physical, mental and developmental special needs. Practices are held on Fridays from 4:00-5:00pm. For more information, contact Leslie Runnels-Stover at [email protected].


Ryan Family YMCA

Swim Requirements and Swim Team Levels:

  • Bronze: 50 yards freestyle, 50 yards backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke and 25 yard fly kick.
  • Silver: Four legal strokes and 4x100 on 2:45-3:00 minutes for each stroke. Must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly all legally.   
  • Flex Gold: Recommended for younger swimmers, or as an option if a swimmer cannot attend practice five days a week. Same swim requirements as Gold swim team level.
  • Gold: Four legal strokes and 6x100 yard freestyle on 2:00 minutes. 2x200 yard IM on 3:45-4:00 minutes. Must be able to swim freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly all legally and dive off of block.
