CHILD WATCH MEMBERSHIP OPTION

While you exercise or relax at the Y, children can play under the supervision of trained YMCA staff. Family members can add a Child Watch option to their accounts, which includes unlimited use of the service for $10 monthly. Child Watch is open to children 6 weeks to 9 years old, and families can use the service at other YMCA locations.

The Y Strong Girls program provides tools to empower young women to create meaningful lives through healthy choices, mindfulness, self-love, forming friendships and community involvement. For teen girls (ages 13-18) who are in middle and high school. *YMCA Membership is not required.

WOMEN'S WELLNESS WEEKEND

September 22-24, 2023 | $199 member / $225 non-member – Join us at Camp Martson for a relaxing weekend filled with camp activities, delicious meals and classes focused on mind and body wellness. Register today!

12 WEEK TRANSFORMATION CHALLENGE

This program incorporates all aspects of general fitness: cardio, strength, core training, weight training, resistance training, bodyweight workouts and personal nutritional support. BLOOD PRESSURE SELF-MONITORING PROGRAM

BEGINNING OCTOBER 7, 2023

One in three American adults has high blood pressure, which puts them at risk for stroke and heart disease, two of the leading causes of death in the United States. In response to this critical health issue, YMCA’s Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring program offers personalized support while participants develop the habit of monitoring their blood pressure. Research shows that the process of recording blood pressure at least twice a month over a period of four months can lower blood pressure in many people with high blood pressure. Free to participate. Learn more about the program.

Participants will: 

  • Measure and record their blood pressure at least two times per month. 
  • Attend two personalized consultations per month. 
  • Attend monthly nutrition education seminars. 

Who Qualifies? 

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old. 
  • Be diagnosed with high blood pressure. 
  • Not have experienced a recent cardiac event. 
  • Not have atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias. 
  • Not be at risk for lymphedema. 

 

TEAM TRAINING

Join a team of like-minded individuals for a motivating and enjoyable way to add an extra element to your workouts! Team trainings can have different areas of focus — yoga, boxing, muay thai, running, water fitness and more. This is a perfect option for groups of 3-8 people who would like to work out on a consistent day and time with their awesome trainer!

WOMEN'S SELF DEFENSE WORKSHOP

Learn the basics of self-defense with coach Lolo over the course of five weeks, September 1-29 on Fridays, 5:00pm - 5:55pm! Women who participate in self-defense training are less likely to experience assault and are more confident in their ability to effectively resist assault. GLUTE POWER WORKSHOP

Join us for a four-part series on Fridays, 5:30pm - 6:30pm, October 6-27, on Friday as we activate, shape, lift and round your glutes with a targeted training program. Learn the basics of activating and strengthening your glutes with our amazing personal trainer, Jackie! Our glute-centered guide will help you get your glutes toned — in just one month. HEALTHY COOKING CLASSES

Led by UrbanLife, our hands-on cooking and nutrition education class will inspire healthy habits for children and their families. TEAM CHALLENGE

BEGINS AUGUST 12

Team challenge is a team training program that works for any fitness goal. Over six weeks, you'll be challenged to move more and eat healthfully. Our swim team is practicing regularly! If your child would like to get involved, swimmers should be proficient in 50 -100 yards freestyle with rotary breathing and 25 yards of backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly. FITNESS CLASSES TO TRY

Thanks to our versatile, excellent instructors, most moves in our group fitness classes can be modified to suit any fitness level. If you're new to our group fitness classes and looking for a good place to start, we recommend Aqua Fit, Forever Fit, Chair Yoga and Zumba Gold classes.

Free Balance Assessments

Sign up at the Welcome Center for a 5-minute balance assessment with the Family Health Centers. A physical therapist will be on hand to explain your results and share recommendations for exercise or referrals to specialized care. Balance is important to your well-being!  Here's why:

  • Balance is key to maintaining or improving your independence with activities, allowing you to rely less on others to complete your daily tasks.
  • Balance improves your ability to move with confidence.
  • Improving balance can decrease your risk of falling and injury.
  • Good balance brings confidence to exercise more, which can decrease your overall stress and improve your overall mood!

Y in the Community

The YMCA Teen Achievers Program (Y-TAP)

The YMCA Teen Achievers Program (Y-TAP) aims to create safe spaces for teens in San Diego’s City Heights and neighboring communities. The program includes computer lab access, dinner, field trips, Workshop Wednesdays and other fun activities! Y-TAP offers qualifying teens a free, year-long YMCA membership as long as requirements surrounding school attendance, physical activity, community service and well-being are met and/or exceeded.

  • Eligible students must be ages 13-17.
  • Complete monthly goals and stay current with academic meetings to maintain their membership.

COMMUNITY CAFE
