Memorial Day Hours
We’re open on Memorial Day, Monday, May 30, with modified hours! We will be open from 7:00am – 2:00pm.
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS IN MAY
Mental health is no less important than our physical health. We invite young people, ages 13 to 24, to experience the Y FREE and find new activities and that support positive mental health. Find resources and learn more about teen free access eligibility.
MAY IS NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION MONTH
Did you know that the Y has been the nation’s leader in swim instruction and water exercise for more than 100 years? Swim lessons are a key component for drowning prevention — reducing the likelihood of drowning by 88%! Pool Closure on June 12
On Sunday, June 12, we will be closing all pools in our association for an all-day event dedicated to training our aquatics team to prevent, recognize and respond to all aquatic situations. All aquatics positions will be required to participate in this ongoing effort to maximize safety in our pools.
Y FAMILY NIGHT AT SAN DIEGO LOYAL SC GAME

The YMCA of San Diego County has partnered with San Diego Loyal SC, our hometown professional soccer team, and Rady Children’s Hospital to strengthen our youth soccer leagues by providing guidance in skill development and coaching, health best practices to help players develop self-confidence, positive relationships and resilience. CHILD WATCH MEMBERSHIP OPTION
Family members can opt to add a Child Watch option to their accounts, which includes unlimited use of the service for $20 monthly. Use your Child Watch benefit at any YMCA that offers the service. While you exercise or relax at the Y, children can play under the supervision of trained YMCA staff. Child Watch is open to children 2 to 9 years old!
Health and Wellness
Want to know what you're made of? Get an InBody assessment. InBody body-composition assessments not only examine body composition, but also reveal percentage of body fat, muscle distribution and body-water balance. We want to welcome back Chase to our group exercise schedule! She is now teaching a Strength and Stretch class Tuesday mornings at 8am.
NEW TO FITNESS CLASSES?
Sign up for an orientation, or just choose any class on the schedule that sounds interesting! Tip: Arrive to your class 5-10 minutes early. Introduce yourself, and let the instructor know that you're new or it's your first time trying this particular class. Our instructors will always provide modifications and tips to suit your level, and they want to make sure you have a safe, fun and effective workout.
Our drop-in adult ballet classes are a great way for dancers 18 and over to learn traditional ballet technique in an enjoyable and welcoming environment. Dancers of all levels are invited to participate! Flow, balance and stamina, as well as artistry and movement are explored in these 1-1/2-hour sessions offered at 12:00pm Mondays and Wednesdays and 9:00am, Fridays.
We have cycling classes and a full line of strength equipment in our courtyard.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS ORIENTATION
Meet with a wellness coach to get acquainted with equipment and classes, ask questions and chart a path to reach your goals. Schedule your 30-minute orientation at the Welcome Center! Learn more.

EAT THE FROG
Eat the Frog Fitness has a studio at Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA! Eat the Frog Fitness combines personal training and small-group fitness, with modified workouts for all fitness levels in an encouraging, supportive environment. Learn more about their program and how to become a member.
Looking for a new fitness challenge or just want to improve your stroke? The Masters swim team at the Ecke Y practices are held in our 11-lane, Anne and Edward Woolley Competition pool. Spots are limited to 44 swimmers each month. Those currently enrolled will receive priority registration to register for the next month. Y’s Active Adults (50+)
Join our Y's Active Adults for coffee from 9:00 to 10:00am, the first Tuesday of every month. Bring your own cup, and enjoy coffee, conversation and camaraderie! Meet in the lobby.
Our fun and engaging origami workshops with Walter are held at 10:00am on Wednesdays.
RARE BEARS SEWING CLUB
The Rare Bears Sewing Club sews and finishes stuffed bears for children with rare diseases. Meets Thursday mornings. No experience necessary! For information, contact Brian Wagner, [email protected].
Our Ecke Y Walking Club meets at 8:15am, Saturdays and 8:00am, Tuesdays. Meet in front of the Y. The route varies each week, and we have a light and non-light group!
New: Try Tai Chi on Saturdays at 11:15am. (Also offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays).

Preschool Open House
Saturday, June 4, from 10am - 12pm
Join us for a preschool open house and learn why YMCA Preschools are a great place for your child to learn, play and grow! During the open house, families will get a tour of the facility, learn about our unique curriculum and meet our directors. Camp is calling! Registration is open now for summer day camps at 14 YMCAs and three overnight camps at YMCA Camp Marston, YMCA Raintree Ranch and YMCA Camp Surf. Sign up early to save your spot — many camps are already full.
Adventure Guides offers a unique experience for parents and their children to enjoy a mix of group activities and outdoor adventures while creating close and enduring relationships. Learn more.
Our Little Feet program has an amazing lineup of classes for our smallest dancers ages 4 months to 3 years old. Find classes and register for:
- Parent/Tot Ballet/Tap Classes: Parent/toddler dance class introducing the fundamentals of ballet and tap.
- Tiny Dancers and Transitional Twos: Dancers explore their independence, learning the fundamentals of ballet and tap dance without parents in the room.
- Baby Bop: Non-mobile babies experience sensory play, songs, and movement activities.
- Fun With Music: Parent/Tot introductory ballet and tap class with emphasis on music and rhythm in a fun, creative environment.
- Hip Hop Heroes & Heroines: Parent/Tot developmentally appropriate hip hop class with all the pop, boom, bang of a Marvel comic book.

The world famous Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA Skate Park is one of the biggest and most diverse in San Diego County. Our open skate sessions are a great way to enjoy the park daily! Help your kids build confidence, discipline and strength! Our beginner martial arts classes teach kids a blend of tae kwon do, karate, judo and Jujitsu. Belt exams will be held every three months to allow students to earn the honor of testing to the next belt. Students will learn forms, stances, and how to protect themselves in a fun and active environment. Learn more and register today.
